Next Sunday July 5th at 4pm, I will be launching my new webinar series. It will feature a discussion with my amazing friend, award-winning filmmaker Julie Dash and will be followed by a Q and A. “In The Director’s Chair with FAS” will take place on the first Sunday of each month on our VOD streaming platform CaribbeanTales-TV. I’m looking forward to introducing you to an eclectic range of industry experts, visionaries and artists. I am both excited and a bit nervous about this new venture as I continue to expand my offerings to the world.
For the past 20 years, CaribbeanTales has been my love-child. I have nurtured it through good times and bad. For me It’s not just a business, it’s been my calling. The passion to create and share our authentic stories has over time evolved into this multi-facetted group of media companies – representing a pipeline of services built around Black and culturally diverse film storytelling . The CaribbeanTales Media Group produces, markets and sells films and television content for the global market.
Among its many arms, CTMG also offers an incubator program, a year-round development and production hub for creators of colour that aims to support strong compelling and sustainable content for the global market. The drive to nurture talent and ensure that up and coming creatives of colour thrive in this tough industry is what led me to decide to launch “In The Director’s Chair.”

As we learn, we must teach, otherwise what is the point? Filmmakers aren’t always accessible – they are usually working – whether it’s developing their next project or spending long hours on a set. But since COVID-19 locked down much of the world, we have turned to our screens to communicate and to learn. I felt the time was right to share my experience and knowledge with those who yearn to get up close and personal about directing and producing. Unfiltered talk that pulls back the mystery of filmmaking and gives you the audience an inside view of what happens behind the scenes, how decisions are made and stories unfold for the big screen. I also wanted to share time with some of my favourite industry friends and to allow others to learn from their insights and experiences.
I’m very excited about the Sundays that lie ahead. I’m especially looking forward to welcoming YOU and to your questions. Often, when I am leading a masterclass or participating in talkbacks, that is when I learn the most. It’s where I get to see the fruits of my labour and that my art has really touched others in meaningful ways. Please join me, and spread the word! We’ll have a chair waiting for you.
