FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 2024
Toronto, ON – The 8th annual CineFAM Film Festival returns from October 18-20, 2024, bringing together a collection of 30 extraordinary films—all created by Canadian women and non-binary filmmakers of colour. The highly anticipated Film Festival will take over The Hub (837 Dundas St. W.) in Toronto. CineFAM remains a vital platform for amplifying diverse voices, showcasing powerful storytelling that spans themes of love, loss, identity, and transformation. This year’s festival explores powerful themes of love, loss, identity, and connection, offering audiences a unique and transformative cinematic experience.
The festival will kick off with the CineFAM Mixer on Friday October 18th —an exciting networking event where filmmakers, industry professionals, and cinephiles can connect and celebrate the talent behind these remarkable films. The night will also feature three episodes of the new comedy series Garvey’s Ghost by award-winning director, Frances-Anne Solomon, along with a talkback with cast members.
CineFAM Night 1: With You, Without You
First screening night, With You, Without You, centers on connection amidst chaos and the profound impact of love and loss. The films of the evening dive into the relationships that shape us, for better or for worse, and how we navigate the uncertainty of the world around us. Attendees will also experience a live ShopTalk, moderated by Maya Bastian, discussing the future of storytelling in Canadian film for diverse voices with some of our 2024 CineFAM filmmakers.
CineFAM Night 2: The Love That Remains
The second night, The Love That Remains, examines the shifting nature of identity and the enduring power of love to guide us through life’s changes. The films in this series reflect the various forms that identity takes and how, through love, we return to ourselves. The CineFAM 2024 awards will also be presented at Sunday’s closing.
Both nights will feature diversely talented filmmakers with award winning films, including:
Atefah Khademolreza’s ‘Meteor’ (TIFF ’23)
Samantha Macadam (Shelved, CBC)
Jasmin Mozzafari’s ‘Motherland’ (Best Live Action Short Drama, Canadian Screen Awards ’24)
