On Friday, September 12, at Harbourfront Centre, Screen Share presents Honouring Our Legends, celebrating the 89th birthday of the Honourable Dr. Jean Augustine and the extraordinary legacy she continues to build.
The evening will feature the Canadian Premiere of Queen of Soca, directed by Kevin Adams and starring Trinidad and Tobago’s 2026 Calypso Monarch, Terri Lyons. The celebration continues with cocktails and an after-party that will bring together filmmakers, artists, community leaders and audiences in celebration of Caribbean culture, creativity and community.
Celebrating Dr. Jean Augustine
This year, we are honoured to celebrate the 89th birthday of Dr. Jean Augustine—trailblazer, educator, advocate, and the first Black Canadian woman elected to Parliament.
Dr. Augustine’s lifelong dedication to equity, education, and the advancement of Black communities has left an indelible mark on Canada and continues to inspire generations of leaders, artists, and changemakers.
As part of the evening’s celebrations, Screen Share will present the Jean Augustine Excellence Award, recognizing individuals whose vision, creativity, leadership and achievements have inspired others and enriched our cultural and social landscape.
A Special Screening: Queen of Soca
Bringing the energy, music and spirit of the Caribbean to Toronto is the Canadian Premiere of the highly anticipated feature film Queen of Soca, directed by Kevin Adams and starring Trinidad and Tobago’s 2026 Calypso Monarch, Terri Lyons.
The film follows Olivia, a gifted young singer caught between family expectations, faith and her own ambitions. Filled with music, heart and Caribbean flavour, Queen of Soca is an uplifting coming-of-age story about self-discovery, resilience and the courage to follow your own path.
Following the screening, the celebration continues with cocktails and an after-party featuring a live DJ, bringing the evening to a close with great music, good company and plenty of reasons to celebrate.
Screen Share: Caribbean Stories, Collective Power is a partnership between Canada-based CaribbeanTales International Film Festival, and Trinidad and Tobago-based Caribbean Film Festival.
