Celebrate International PRIDE Month with CaribbeanTales’ initiative: #INTERSECT!

June is international PRIDE Month, a time when Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex (LGBTQI) people celebrate their identity. CaribbeanTales is celebrating by the launch of #INTERSECT – an initiative which provides a platform for stories for by and about queer and trans people of colour (QTPOC)! 2017’s activities include the addition of LGBTQI collection on CaribbeanTales-TV.com, as well as a series ofscreenings and a short film challenge at the CaribbeanTales International Film Festival, sponsored by CTWD.

Co-presented with the Toronto Queer Film Festival, this short film challenge seeks the submission of diverse stories of any theme and genre by, for and about QTPOC from across the Caribbean Region and Diaspora. This challenge is supported by the Black Coalition for AIDS Prevention.

CRITERIA: – 5 minutes or less – Written, directed and performed mainly by QTPOC

PRIZES: – Cash – Equipment – Screening at CTFF – Distribution through CTWD

The following four short films were selected as winners of the 2016 Short Film Challenge. Brotherhood: The Trans Edition (top left), produced by TransWave from Jamaica, and Pelau: Two Ingredients One Meal (top right), from Trinidad and Tobago, were screened at the CTFF2016. All of them will be playing onOUTtv this year!

  A Safe Space  Jeremy Steffan Edwards I Short Documentary | Trinidad & Tobago | 2016 | 12 min | English | HD The untimely death of a teenager pushes to action his peers to found the Silver Lining Foundation. His mother, Katherine Kazanjian, relates the heart-breaking ordeal and the journey to turn this tragedy into an avenue to help other young LGBTQ people.
